Sartorius SoloHill® Microcarriers
SoloHill® Microcarriers provide a cost-effective solution for scaling up adherent cell-based biopharmaceutical processes, from viral vaccines and vectors to stem cell cultures. They provide a large surface area for high-cell-density cultures in both small-scale and large-scale stirred-tank bioreactor (STR) systems. Their spherical, solid-core design eliminates the need for lengthy swelling or equilibration steps before use and enables efficient harvesting of cells or cell-derived products.
SoloHill® Microcarriers are available in multiple product formats including bottles and pre-sterilized Microcarrier Delivery System (MDS) bags for direct, aseptic bioreactor connection.
SoloHill® Plastic Microcarriers
Different variants of Plastic microcarriers are available under the part number prefixes P-221, P-215, and P-421, each with a defined density and particle-size range. P-221 is the recommended reference variant, with a relative density of 1.022–1.030 and a particle-size range of 125–212 µm.
SoloHill® Animal Component-Free Microcarriers
Sartorius offers four types of high-performing, certified animal component-free SoloHill® microcarriers - Plastic, Plastic-Plus, Star-Plus, and Hillex® II - for users who require fully serum-free media and animal product‑free processes. Their tailored surface and physical properties promote efficient cell attachment and robust growth in chemically defined environments.
Cell Therapy, Vaccines & Cell-Derived Biologics
Microcarriers support customers from early process development through commercial manufacturing. Relevant applications and cell types include:
Cell therapy: Expansion of stem cells, including MSCs, and production of cell-secreted products such as MSC-derived exosomes for therapeutic applications.Vaccines: Production of human and veterinary vaccines using adherent cell systems, including Vero, MDCK, MRC-5, and CEF cells.
