Specifications

Sartopure® GF Plus Midicaps®

Sartopure® GF Plus Midicaps® are compact, ready-to-use capsule depth filters for clarification and prefiltration in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical process streams. Their enclosed capsule format is suitable for small-volume processing, process development and scale-down applications. The two-layer glass-fiber fleece supports adsorptive and mechanical reduction of colloids, lipids, protein aggregates and particles before downstream filtration or purification steps.

Main Formats:

  • Retention Ratings: Available in 0.65 µm and 1.2 µm to support selection according to particulate load, feed stream composition and downstream filtration requirements.
  • Midicaps® Format: Compact capsule format for laboratory-scale, development-scale and limited-volume process applications.
  • Ready-to-Use Capsule Design: Enclosed filter unit that can be integrated into small single-use filtration assemblies.
  • Connector Options: Available with process-relevant connector configurations depending on selected article and application setup.

Applications:

  • Small-Volume Clarification: Suitable for clarification of limited-volume pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical process fluids.
  • Process Development: Supports early-stage filtration studies and evaluation of Sartopure® GF Plus depth filtration performance.
  • Scale-Down Studies: Enables small-scale testing to support filter selection and process transfer to larger formats.
  • Cell Culture Harvest Clarification: Helps reduce particles, colloids, lipids and protein aggregates in harvested cell culture fluids.
  • Fermentation Broth Prefiltration: Applicable before downstream membrane filtration, chromatography or ultrafiltration steps.
  • Media and Serum Filtration: Suitable for serum-containing or serum-free media and fluids with colloidal or lipid-based contaminants.
  • Viscous Solution Prefiltration: Can be used for viscous ophthalmic and large-volume parenteral solutions at appropriate process scale.

Materials Used:

  • Filter Medium: Two-layer glass-fiber fleece for combined adsorptive and mechanical retention.
  • Support Material: Polypropylene support fleece.
  • Capsule Housing: Polypropylene.
  • Core and End Caps: Polypropylene.
  • O-Rings: Silicone as standard, with EPDM or fluoroelastomer options depending on configuration and process requirements.
  • Regulatory-Related Product Information: Non-pyrogenic according to USP Bacterial Endotoxins test and passes USP Plastic Class VI test, according to product documentation.

Advantages:

  • Compact Capsule Format: Supports clarification and prefiltration where small hold-up volume and easy handling are important.
  • Adsorptive Depth Filtration: The glass-fiber matrix helps reduce colloids, lipids, protein aggregates and particles in challenging process streams.
  • Defined Retention Options: 0.65 µm and 1.2 µm ratings allow adaptation to different clarification needs.
  • Single-Use Integration: Ready-to-use capsule design supports disposable filtration workflows and small process assemblies.
  • Scale-Up Support: Midicaps® can be used in development work to support transfer to larger Sartopure® GF Plus capsule or cartridge formats.
  • Downstream Process Protection: Helps reduce particulate and colloidal burden before membrane filters, chromatography columns and ultrafiltration systems.
  • Sterilization Option: Midicaps® can be autoclaved within specified operating limits.

Together, these features make Sartopure® GF Plus Midicaps® a practical format for small-scale clarification, prefiltration and process development in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical workflows.
