Sartopure® GF Plus Filters: Clarification and Prefiltration in Biopharma Processes

Sartopure® GF Plus depth filters are designed for clarification and prefiltration in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical process streams. The two-layer adsorptive glass-fiber fleece supports reduction of colloids, lipids, protein aggregates and particles, helping protect downstream membrane filters, chromatography columns and ultrafiltration systems.

Main Formats:

  • Retention Ratings: Available with 0.65 µm and 1.2 µm retention ratings, enabling selection according to feed stream composition, particulate load and downstream process requirements.
  • Filter Cartridges: Designed for use in stainless steel housings and suitable for scalable clarification and prefiltration setups.
  • Maxicaps® and T-Style Maxicaps®: Ready-to-use capsule formats for single-use process lines, pilot-scale applications and manufacturing workflows where enclosed filtration units are preferred.
  • Midicaps® and Mini Cartridges: Compact formats for small-volume processing, process development, scale-down studies and limited-volume biopharmaceutical applications.
  • Jumbo Star Cartridges: Large-area filter format for process-scale clarification where higher filtration capacity and compact system integration are required.
  • Sartoscale: Small-scale format for process development, filter selection and scale-up studies using the Sartopure® GF Plus filter material concept.

Applications:

  • Cell Culture Harvest Clarification: Used to reduce particles, colloids, lipids and protein aggregates in harvested cell culture fluids.
  • Fermentation Broth Prefiltration: Suitable for clarification steps before downstream membrane filtration or purification.
  • Media and Serum Filtration: Applicable for serum-containing media and other process fluids with colloidal or lipid-based contaminants.
  • Viscous Solution Clarification: Can be used for large-volume parenteral and ophthalmic solutions with higher particulate or turbidity burden.
  • Downstream Process Protection: Helps reduce particulate and colloidal load before membrane filters, chromatography columns and ultrafiltration systems.

Materials Used:

  • Filter Medium: Two-layer adsorptive glass-fiber fleece for combined mechanical and adsorptive retention.
  • Support Material: Polypropylene support fleece.
  • Construction: Polypropylene core, end caps and capsule housing components, depending on the selected format.
  • O-Rings: Silicone as standard, with EPDM or fluoroelastomer options depending on configuration and process requirements.

Advantages:

  • Adsorptive Depth Filtration: Two-layer glass-fiber matrix supports reduction of colloids, lipids, protein aggregates and particles.
  • Process Stream Clarification: Helps lower turbidity and particulate burden before downstream filtration or purification steps.
  • Downstream Filter Protection: Can support extended use of subsequent membrane filters by reducing challenging contaminants upstream.
  • Format Flexibility: Cartridge and capsule options support use from development scale to manufacturing scale.
  • Single-Use Integration: Maxicaps®, T-Style Maxicaps® and Midicaps® can be integrated into disposable process assemblies.
  • Sterilization Options: Cartridges can be autoclaved or steam sterilized in-line; capsule formats can be autoclaved within specified operating limits.
  • Application Range: Suitable for clarification tasks involving cell culture harvests, fermentation broths, serum-containing media and viscous pharmaceutical solutions.

Together, these features make Sartopure® GF Plus a flexible depth filtration choice for clarification, prefiltration and downstream process protection in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical workflows.
